Latvian company SPH Engineering helps locate aircraft buried under Greenland ice with the help of GPR and drone integrated system

An expedition was carried out in Greenland this past July that, using technology developed by Latvian company SPH Engineering – a ground penetrating radar (GPR) and drone integrated system – managed to find a World War II aircraft abandoned “in the middle of nowhere”, buried under approximately 100 meters of ice.

On July 15, 1942 eight planes – six P-38 fighter planes and two B-17 bombers – left a U.S. Army base in Greenland. Due to adverse weather conditions, the squadron attempted emergency landing on a glacier far from populated areas. All the crewmen were rescued nine days later, but their planes, which were only lightly damaged during the landing, had to be left behind on the glacier.

Photovoltaic metal roof can produce energy

(Photo: Roofit.solar)
Roofit.solar roofing elements are building integrated photovoltaic modules that are developed and produced in Estonia.

These kind of roofs combine traditional Nordic roof design with modern photovoltaic technology. Roofit.solar photovoltaic roof reduces the installation and the material cost of construction, in addition, it improves the energy class of private houses by one letter.

The studies show that as a result, the real estate market value increases by 4-8%. On top of that, our photovoltaic roofs reduce significantly the cost of ownership. Making the investment once, you can enjoy the production of electricity over decades.

Pothole detection system irons out the bumps

Drivers are facing a “pothole crisis”’, made worse this year in some areas by the “Beast from the East” arctic air-mass, which delivered icy conditions that further contributed to shattered road surfaces.

A pothole was repaired every 21 seconds on average in England and Wales during the past year and harsh impacts can also cause damage that results in hefty repair bills for car owners.

We are helping limit the impact of damaged roads for drivers of the all-new Focus by introducing innovative pothole detection technology. The system senses when a wheel is falling into a pothole and adjusts the suspension so that the wheel doesn’t fall as far into it.

The first person to use the 5G network was Anne Berner, Minister of Transport and Communications, who made a video call to Kadri Simson, Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure in Estonia. The video call is yet another historical achievement by Elisa: the first GSM telephone call in the world was also made using Elisa’s network.

The world’s first commercial 5G networks were launched today in Tampere and Tallinn.
