The AI Basketball Robot CUE4 Attempts to Join a B. League All-Star Game

CUE is an AI basketball-playing robot that scores 100 out of 100 shots, developed by Toyota volunteers in their free time. The development team working on the project as real work, scheduled until 2020, unveiled CUE4, the fourth generation, at the end of 2019.

Yanmar has delivered engines for an innovative hybrid power solution for the live fish carrier, Ro Vision, the winner of Norway’s Boat of the Year Award. Built by Norwegian shipyard Larsnes Mek. Verksted AS., the The Ro Vision is powered by three of Yanmar’s 6EY22ALW diesel generators integrated with a 600kW battery pack from Siemens which together provide power for onboard systems and the electric propulsion system. The ground-breaking vessel was awarded Norway’s prestigious Ship of the Year Award for 2020 for its outstanding technology and design.

Kia showcases new defense vehicle technologies at IDEX 2021 defense exhibition

Kia Corporation has showcased two light tactical defense vehicle concepts at the 2021 International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) in the UAE, the largest international defense exhibition in the Middle East and Africa.

Kia has been supplying its light tactical vehicles to the South Korean army since 2016, becoming the standard-bearer for vehicle quality in the country’s military operation system. The new four-seater Light Tactical Cargo Truck concept displayed at IDEX adopts a bold, commanding design and has been equipped with a cargo container for transporting troops alongside diverse armory. Kia expects the added visual appeal and usability to stimulate further demand for its military vehicles.

ABB wins major power and propulsion order for five Fincantieri vessels

ABB secures an order of around $150 million to deliver a comprehensive scope of technologies to power next-generation cruise ships built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri

Finnish demo plant produces renewable fuel from carbon dioxide captured from the air

The unique Soletair demo plant developed by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) uses carbon dioxide to produce renewable fuels and chemicals. The pilot plant is coupled to LUT’s solar power plant in Lappeenranta and uses solar energy for CO2 extraction and hydrogen producing.

The aim of the project is to demonstrate the technical performance of the overall process and produce 200 litres of fuels and other hydrocarbons for research purposes. This concerns a one-of-a-kind demo plant in which the entire process chain, from solar power generation to hydrocarbon production, is in the same place.

A robotic self-service kiosk pilot in Estonia tries to sustainably increase regional service availability

Cleveron will pilot its first self-service screen and parcel robot integration together with telecom company Telia in Estonia. Telia will set up a “self-service pod” in a small town, where the company’s clients can connect with customer service through a Cleveron self-service screen, pay for their goods on-site, and receive the items from the connected Cleveron parcel robot. The pilot aims to bring Telia’s services closer to its customers in areas, where having traditional service offices is not viable anymore due to the small population and increasing costs.
